Carolin Alice Hofmann earned her MA degree in American studies, comparative literature, and media studies at the University of Leipzig with a thesis on abjection in David Lynchs movie Eraserhead. During her studies at Leipzig university, her undergraduate exchange at Carleton University, Ottawa, and doctoral coursework at SUNY Albany, she became fascinated with concepts such as the uncanny, the sublime, abjection, and trauma. Her research interests focus on biopolitics, cultural studies, medicine, narrative, and aesthetics. Drawing on all of these areas, her doctoral project explores trauma representation in contemporary American texts.
